IAMMETER Launches the WEM2067 + WPC3700 Home Solar Kit

IAMMETER Launches the WEM2067 + WPC3700 Home Solar Kit

IAMMETER has launched a new Home Solar Kit that combines the WEM2067 dual-channel Wi-Fi energy meter with the WPC3700 Wi-Fi power controller.

Designed for single-phase residential PV systems, the kit provides a complete path from home solar PV monitoring to automatic solar surplus utilization. It measures grid power and inverter output in real time, then directs available surplus solar energy to a conventional electric water heater.

Before You Buy: Two Important Requirements

This kit is intended only for systems that meet both of the following requirements:

  1. Both the grid supply and the solar inverter output must be single-phase. The kit is not suitable for a three-phase grid connection or a three-phase solar inverter.
  2. The water heater must use a conventional resistive heating element. The WPC3700 must not be used to regulate a heat-pump water heater.

Measure the Grid and Solar Inverter with WEM2067

The WEM2067 provides two independent measurement channels:

  • One channel measures power imported from or exported to the grid.
  • The other channel measures the output of the single-phase solar inverter.

With both data points available, the system can monitor solar generation and grid exchange in real time and determine when surplus solar power is available.

Use WPC3700 to Heat Water with Solar Surplus

The WPC3700 controls the power supplied to a conventional resistive electric water heater. When surplus solar energy is available, it adjusts the heater's power consumption so that more of the excess PV generation is used to heat water instead of being exported to the grid.

As the available solar surplus changes, the WPC3700 adjusts the heating power accordingly. This turns the water heater into a flexible thermal-storage load without requiring a battery.

Increase Solar Self-Consumption

Without load control, a home may export a significant portion of its daytime solar generation and later use grid electricity to heat water.

The WEM2067 and WPC3700 work together to change this energy flow:

  1. The WEM2067 measures grid import/export and inverter output.
  2. The system detects the available solar surplus.
  3. The WPC3700 adjusts the water heater's power consumption.
  4. More solar energy is consumed directly within the home.

By using surplus PV energy to produce hot water, the kit helps increase solar self-consumption, reduce unnecessary grid imports and improve the financial return of a residential solar system.
