IAMMETER BillSave Is Now Live for Australia

IAMMETER BillSave Is Now Live for Australia

IAMMETER BillSave is now live, starting with the Australian electricity market.

The platform is designed to help users answer a practical question:

What would my actual electricity usage have cost under a different offer?

Electricity offers cannot always be compared by looking at one advertised rate. The result may depend on when electricity is imported, when solar energy is exported, daily supply charges, time-of-use periods, controlled-load rates, demand charges, feed-in tariffs and offer-specific adjustments.

BillSave applies selected published offer rules to interval energy data from an IAMMETER Cloud site. This allows users to estimate and compare bills using the timing of their own grid import and solar export, rather than relying only on a single annual total or a generic household profile.

Another Way to Reduce Electricity Costs

IAMMETER's goal is to help users reduce electricity costs in practical and measurable ways.

Our previous work mainly focused on reducing costs while keeping the existing electricity tariff—for example, moving high-power loads to off-peak periods or using more solar surplus locally.

BillSave adds another approach: keep the same historical usage pattern and calculate how it would perform under another electricity offer.

These two approaches address different parts of the same problem:

  • Use energy more efficiently under the current tariff: change load timing, use off-peak periods and increase solar self-consumption.
  • Find an offer that better matches the existing load profile: apply different tariff rules to the same historical energy data and compare the estimated outcome.

Our longer-term goal is to bring these approaches together, helping users evaluate both a better-matched offer and possible changes in energy use.

Why Use IAMMETER Cloud Data?

Australia already has official comparison services such as Energy Made Easy, the free and independent government service operated by the Australian Energy Regulator.

BillSave is not a replacement for Energy Made Easy and is not affiliated with AER, AEMO or any electricity retailer. Its particular value for IAMMETER users is the direct use of authorised IAMMETER Cloud interval data.

With BillSave, users can:

  • load an IAMMETER Site and select an actual billing cycle;
  • preserve the timing of grid imports and solar exports;
  • apply a selected offer to that energy dataset;
  • inspect the estimated bill, calculation quality, assumptions and breakdown;
  • calculate selected offers with the same Site, billing period and meter mapping.

Estimated electricity bill calculated with IAMMETER BillSave

The calculation remains an estimate for comparison. It is not a retailer invoice, settlement statement, financial recommendation or automatic retailer-switching service. Users should also review eligibility, contract conditions, fees and current official retailer information before making a decision.

How BillSave Works

The basic workflow is:

  1. Search for an Australian retailer, plan or offer. A partial NMI and optional location details can help narrow the applicable network and offers.
  2. Select an offer and review its tariff structure, calculation quality and official sources.
  3. Sign in with IAMMETER, load a Site and select the billing cycle.
  4. Confirm the grid and any separately measured controlled-load channels.
  5. Calculate the estimated bill and review its assumptions and breakdown.
  6. Select other offers when you want to calculate them with the same energy dataset.

The complete operating procedure, screenshots, channel-mapping explanation, comparison workflow and troubleshooting guide are available in How to Use IAMMETER BillSave.

Australia Is the First Market

Australia is currently the only live market on BillSave.

The platform has been designed so that additional countries and electricity markets can be introduced over time. However, supporting another country requires more than translating the interface. Its market structure, offer sources, eligibility rules, billing periods, taxes, network charges, feed-in tariffs and other calculation rules must be represented and verified first.

Countries displayed as Coming soon are not yet available for offer searches or bill calculations. We will add new markets gradually as their data and calculation support are ready.

Want Us to Support Another Offer?

The Australian catalog will continue to expand. If the offer you want to calculate is not available, you can send it to us from BillSave:

  1. Open Find Plans.
  2. Select Can't find your plan? Submit URL.
  3. Provide the official retailer offer page, price fact sheet or regulator-hosted document.
  4. Select Submit for review.

You can follow the request under Submitted plan URLs. Submission creates a review request; it does not automatically import or publish the offer. We need to verify its rates, dates, eligibility conditions and calculation rules first.

You can also post the official offer link or discuss a calculation question on the IAMMETER community forum. Please do not post a complete NMI, account number, unredacted electricity bill or other personal information in a public topic.

What Comes Next

Australia is the starting point for BillSave, not its final boundary. We plan to support additional countries and electricity markets gradually.

We will also continue working toward a more complete electricity-cost optimisation workflow: use real IAMMETER data to evaluate suitable offers, then examine whether changes in load timing, controlled loads or solar self-consumption could reduce costs further.

Open IAMMETER BillSave to try the Australian market, or read the step-by-step BillSave guide before starting your first calculation.
